Trip Description
Do you fancy picking wild mushrooms in Bhutan and be immersed in mother nature’s creations? This trip is for you. The Sangay Shamu, or the Matsutake musrooms grows wildly in some pockets of Bhutan, but the best place to pick them is in the scenic valley of Ura in Bumthang. Here every year a festival is organised where locals and visitors hike the trails around Ura valley to harvest these prized mushrooms. The trip also allows you to interact with the local people of Ura who are very hospitable people, and in the process visitors really get to see the rural lifestyles of Bhutan. You just dont pass through, but you really get to touch the heart Bhutan on this trip .The harvest will be prepared by the locals where you can also participate in the cooking process and its a big picnic where songs are sung, dances are a aplenty and the mind totally rejuvenated. This festival trip should be at least around 10 days and best taken a domestic flight both ways from Paro to Bumthang and back, because the monsoon season creates havoc with the roads due to the ongoing road widening works in central Bhutan.
