Reflective Motorcycling – Riding a 500cc Royal Enfield

Trip Description

In his book, the bestseller ‘Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance’, Robert M. Pirsig explores the meaning and concept of ‘quality’, a term he deems to be undefinable. Pirsig’s thesis is that to truly experience quality one must both embrace and apply it as best fits the requirements of the situation. This is exactly what we intend to do with this one-day motorcycling tour on our thumping Royal Enfields and we call ‘Reflective Motorcycling’. If you have a thing for motorcycles, Bhutan is the place for it. After breakfast ride to Kyichu Lhakhang on a easy road to get comfortable on the bike ( just to get used to left-side traffic direction!). The Paro-Haa-Paro is a favourite loop amongst our riders, and I can tell that with dexterity since I am also a Bullet fan and motorcyclist. Ride up 36 km to Chelela pass – the highest motorable road at 3900m on beautiful undulating roads. You could also choose to stop at Kila goenpa nunnery and do a short hike. Continue to the pass and upon reaching it, enjoy a nice picnic lunch with panoramic views over Paro and Thimphu valleys. Descend for 26 km to Haa valley and visit popular temples such as the Lhakhang Karpo and Nagpo. Continue on a scenic ride on Haa-Thimphu highway (but very quite and less traffic) which passes through beautiful villages and scenic views across the valleys for 90km till Chunzom and ride ride back to Paro.
